Sights, sounds, smells, taste, and touch
It’s funny the things that cause the memories to arise
When all of a sudden memory of my sister flood back
It’s Cilla Black, Port and Lemon and Devon Skies
Sights, sounds, smells, taste, and touch
It’s funny the things that cause the memories to arise
When all of a sudden memory of my sister flood back
It’s Cilla Black, Port and Lemon and Devon Skies
Sights, sounds, smells, taste, and touch
It’s funny the things
that cause the memories to arise
When all of a sudden
memory of my sister flood back
It’s Cilla Black, Port
and Lemon and Devon Skies
When I was young we ate a healthy diet
With plenty of fruit and vegetables
But we never thought of eating Seaweed
In fact we didn’t even know it was edible
When I was young, we ate a healthy diet
With plenty of fruit and vegetables
And we didn’t do it under sufferance
Apart from prunes which were medicinal
My first experience of drinking Coffee
Was when I was a kid at school
It came in a bottle and tasted foul
They do very odd things with spuds
Nowadays some of which seem crazy
When I was young people who didn't
Are you wearing a reunion badge?
No wonder you look
depressed,
Steer clear of the class
reunion
It will just leave you
distressed
I know it was a bit of
fun looking
At the old school year
books
But going will just
make you feel
I was little more than a lad
And my hometown lay
behind me
But I didn’t walk the
road
As a lad for very
long,
I quickly became a man
So I walked for many
years
And for many miles
In country and in town
Working in the sweet-smelling
fields
And the foul odorous
cities
But I wandered tall
and proud
Now the road lead me
home
And the path breathes
life
Into my wistful heart
We virtually lived outside
Me and my friends
On long summer
adventures
Until the days ends
But we weren’t just
The fair weather sort
We played outside even
When days were short
Rolling around in
piles
Of autumn leaves of
gold
Splashing through
puddles
Despite being told
Playing imaginary
games
About being lost in
the fog
running through the woods
Chasing the dog.
In winter when
Saturday came
Then off we’d go
With luck we’d wake
To find a fresh fall
of snow
Then we’d happily sledge
Across the snowy land
Or build a snowman
Till we can’t feel our
hands
Hours pass in minutes
As we’d happily roam
But despite the cold
We didn’t rush to get
home
When we did we
crunched
Through the crisp winter
frost
Those were the joys
Of a childhood lost
We have loved eggs
Since we were children
Chuckie Eggs my dad
Used to call them
We have loved eggs
Since we were children
Cackle Berries my dad
Used to call them
We have loved eggs
Since we were children
Hen Fruits my dad
Used to call them
We have loved eggs
Since we were children
Boneless chickens
My dad used to call
them
My granddad won’t eat brown bread
Because he doesn’t
have to anymore
When he was a boy his
whole family
Had to eat it because
they were poor
When my Dad was just a boy
Pineapple slices came
in a tin
And had he put it on
his dinner
Bedlam would have
taken him
When my Dad was just a boy
They didn’t have
takeaways
Except in maths which
were
When my Dad was just a boy
He had never heard of
pizza
But he thought it was
famed
For having a leaning
tower
When I was a kid all crisps were plain
But we didn’t care
about that a jot
After all we still had
the choice
We used to eat a lot of rice
When I was a boy, no
kidding
But never for our
dinner, we had it
They’d never heard of yogurt
When my Mum was young
And putting it on your
privates
Would’ve got you hung
