I've learned in my life that it takes years

To build up trust, and respectability  

And it only takes suspicion, and not

A shred of proof, to destroy it completely  

IF YOU’VE LEARNED NOTHING IN LIFE

 

If you’ve learned nothing in life

Take this piece of advice from me

Remember this if nothing else,

Your character is your destiny

IT WILL NORMALLY INVOKE A SENSE OF SHAME

 

It will normally invoke a sense of shame

When a young lady to loses her good name

However, her position is not an untenable one

When a young man gives her a better one

HOSPITALITY IS AN ART FORM

 

Hospitality is an art form

Making your guests feel

Like they're actually at home,

While wishing they were for real

HE WAS A REAL JACK THE LAD

 

He was a real Jack the Lad

All flash and brash,

Living it large

And always splashing the cash

You might well be temped

But I advise nothing rash

If he tries it on give him the slip

And make a dash

DOING WHAT YOU LIKE

 

Doing what you like

Does bring happiness for you

But the true source of joy

Is in liking what you do

TO MANY THE TIME ARRIVES

 

To many the time arrives

To take stock of their lives

But it’s nothing I condone

So, leave your livestock alone

LIFE’S VEXATIONS # 7

 

I hate it when buying sunglasses

When I find a pair, I want to try

And that stupid little plastic thing

Dangles right in front of my eye

LIFE’S VEXATIONS # 6

 

When you’re only browsing

In a department store

Five different salespeople

Sometimes even more

Pestering and prying and

Asking if they can assist you

But when you need a one

There’s never one in view

LIFE’S VEXATIONS # 5

 

There is nothing that annoys me more

Than the elevator stopping on every floor

No one gets on or off which irks me treble

In fact it’s annoying on more than one level

Is there anything more annoying?

Than when checking your tyre pressure

And you're trying to get a reading

Your pressure gauge lets out half the air

I WAS ALMOST DROWNED

 

I was almost drowned

Just a few miles from shore

And my life passed before my eyes

God it was a total bore

IF LIFE IS GETTING YOU DOWN

 

If life is getting you down

And depressing you increasingly

Take all of your troubles 

And toss them into the sea,

You don’t have to do it for real

Just do it metaphorically

But a trip to the beach

Will help you miraculously

Is there anything more annoying?

Can there ever be any doubt

When you can never get anything

Back in a box the way it came out

DON’T PLAY SECOND FIDDLE

 

Don’t play second fiddle

Don’t be a mistress, be a wife

You must always be

The leading lady in your own life

MEASURE YOUR LIFE BY THE QUANTITY OF SMILES

Measure your life by the quantity of smiles,

And forget the tears

Measure your age by the quality of friends,

And forget the passing years

WHEN I WAS YOUNG I WAS A BIT OF A LAD

 

When I was young, I was a bit of a lad

But now life has caught up with me

It used to be wine, women and song

Now it's beer, the old lady and TV 

AS I'VE GROWN OLDER

 

As I've grown older

I don't question

Myself anymore

I’ve learned to accept

Things about me,

My own shortcomings,

I’ve forgiven myself

I don’t second guess

Or criticize

I even like myself

Like a friend
