If you scratch a cynic,

Beneath the exterior,

You will probably find

A disappointed dreamer

Invisible to us all, it works like radar

That alerts every flying creature

When I have finished washing my car

WHEN YOU’RE FEELING ON TOP OF THE WORLD

 

When you’re feeling on top of the world

Don’t fall into the trap and boast

Because one day you're the best thing

Since sliced bread and the next, you're toast

ARE YOU WEARING A CONTENTED EXPRESSION?

 

Are you wearing a contented expression?

You certainly have an air of being detached

But then you’re a man and at the end of the day

Which means if it itches, it will be scratched

NOCTURNAL PLIGHT

And I’m not eager to repeat my plight

When I foolishly took a sleeping pill

And a laxative on the same night

BEYOND QUANTIFYABLE MEASURE

 

When someone you love

Beyond quantifiable measure

Becomes a memory,

That memory becomes a treasure

A FAMILIAR TIMEPIECE

 

There is a welcoming comfort

To be felt upon entering the house

And being instantly greeted

By the reassuring sound

Of a familiar timepiece

I always feel instantly at peace

Because a ticking clock

Is the heartbeat of the home

YOU CANNOT LIVE YOUR LIFE IN PARK

 

You cannot live your life in “Park”

Nor can you reverse to happier times

You must put it into drive and go

Leave the pain of loss and regret

On life’s hard shoulder and go forward

And see what more life has to offer

Everything happens for a reason,

Is the generally accepted view

Unfortunately, you must admit

That sometimes the reason is you

I AM NOT A HOUSE PROUD MAN

 

I am not a house proud man

By any means or measure

I find it too much of a chore

I am more a man of leisure

So, for me a clean flat is

The sign of a broken computer

HIS LIFE WAS LIKEN

 

His life was liken

To a candles flame

But his flickering glow

Did not sputter or gutter

For his tapers story

Was to burn in all his glory

Though in short duration

It was an intense light

But the flame that burns

Twice as bright,

Burns half as long

BURNING AWAY

 

Once lit the candle of life burns

Hour by hour, day by day

As the candle's wax melts away,

the hours of your life melt with it

A peaceful quiet life

Produces a gentle flickering light

But burning the candle at both ends.

Causes a tongue of flame

But by flicker or blaze

The hours of your life will burn

I'M NOT SAYING THAT I HATE HIM

 

I'm not saying that I hate him,

But my dislike is well known

And I’d unplug his life support

In order to charge my phone

Marriages, so need I say more?

WHY IS IT THAT EVERYTHING I LOVE

Is either unhealthy, addictive
