In this extremely
enjoyable courtroom drama, cantankerous, yet brilliant barrister Sir Wilfred
Robarts (Sir Ralph Richardson) returns to his office in London, having
recovered from a heart attack, under the watchful eye of Nurse Plimsoll
(Deborah Kerr).
He is subsequently
invited to defend Leonard Vole (Beau Bridges), who is the prime suspect in the
murder of an elderly rich woman.
The unemployed, former
World War II veteran, married to his beloved German wife Christine Vole (Dame
Diana Rigg), is accused of seducing, and murdering the wealthy middle-aged
single woman, Emily French (Patricia Leslie), in order to inherit eighty
thousand pounds, and the stubborn QC must defend him.
